McDavid, Skinner Shine for Edmonton
EDMONTON, Alberta - Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist, and Stuart Skinner made 34 saves as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Dallas Stars 3-1 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals on Thursday.
The Oilers took a 3-2 series lead and will have a chance to clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Final when they host Game 6 on Saturday.
McDavid gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead in the first period with a power-play goal. Leon Draisaitl scored later in the period to make it 2-0.
The Stars got on the board in the second period on a goal by Joe Pavelski. But McDavid assisted on Zach Hyman's goal in the third period to make it 3-1.
Skinner was solid in goal for the Oilers, stopping 34 of 35 shots.
The Oilers will now have a chance to close out the series on home ice on Saturday. The Stars will need to win Game 6 to force a Game 7 in Dallas.
